Binky's, Underwear and Real Smiles

You might remember a recent post where I mentioned that Caleb lost his last binky and he was now going to be forced to go without...well here's an update. Caleb kept going into his room and getting under his bed. As I did some further investigation I found that he was sneaking under his bed to suck on his binky. I don't know where he found it because I seriously tore the house apart looking for it. Well he is now allowed to have the binky in bed, which has been a blessing for me. Before you judge me too harshly take a look at this picture and tell me if you would have the guts to take it away from him...

It's like he's begging me to let him keep it. I'm a sucker. I know it. But, would you really take it from such a face?

In other news, Caleb has a new obsession...wearing Thomas the Train underwear over his clothes. Maybe he's not even close to potty training -as I had once hoped.

I also kind of got a semi normal smile out of Jacob the other day. He usually squishes his face up like this...

But I actually got one with his eyes open.
Hopefully we are making progress and someday you will all see a picture of him actually looking like himself :)

Farewell Dear Friend...

Caleb lost his best friend ...white binky. Yes, it will be a hard separation that I hope we survive. Before I had kids I thought it was ridiculous for kids to have binky's after age 1. Then I had kids and my first kid had his binky until he was 2 1/2. Yes, I ate my words on that one. Since then, I have decided that I am addicted to the binky. The kids go down to sleep without crying or fighting. I feel like it just makes my life a little easier. Clay on the other hand thinks the opposite. He thinks Caleb is too old for a binky and he HATED that Jacob had his for so long. So we made a deal that when Caleb lost all of his binky's he was done. Well it happened. The last binky is gone and I'm so sad. He cried really hard and woke up like 3 times the first night. So far we are all still alive. I hope it gets better. So, white binky, we will miss you. Farewell dear friend.

Temple Square

We went to see the lights at Temple Square on New Years Day to say a final goodbye to the holiday season. (I just got these pictures from my sister) It had been a while since I had been to see the lights and I'm really glad we went. Jacob loved the lights but was really upset that we didn't get to go inside the temple.

Carter, Aunt Katrina, and Jacob
Our family

Jacob, Carter and Grandpa John

Our family with a pathetic attempt to get the lights in the background. I always forget that you can't ever get a good picture of the lights.
I took down our tree and decorations and for some reason I was a lot sadder than I have been in the past. I hope I'm always sad to see it be over. As parents, Clay and I really tried teach Jacob about what Christmas is all about...not Santa, but Christ. It was really good because I found myself always thinking about it because I was trying to think of ways to show Jacob. I don't know if he got anything out of it but I know I did. I spent more time studying about Christ and His life this Christmas than I ever have at Christmas before. I think that is why I'm so sad to see it end. I guess what I'm trying to say is it would be a good thing to study like that all the time. I know that, so why is it so hard? I guess as long as it's a goal and I'm trying to reach it I'll be okay. Any suggestions?
Oh, when I took down the decorations, Jacob was in the other room. When he came in and saw everything was gone, he just started crying and shouted, "Somebody ruined my Christmas." Sorry buddy. We'll get a new tree next year!!
Thanks to everyone who made this season so special!

Come and Gone

I can't believe that the holiday season has come and gone. I love this time of year, spending time with friends and family and having lots of extra reminders to help us remember Christ.
I guess it's time to report on our holiday festivities.

Our Christmas Rocked!

Christmas is 10 times better with kids. Jacob was so excited the entire week before Christmas, waking up at 3:00 am every day asking if it was Christmas yet. Then on Christmas Eve he was so excited he was up way late. I'm not sure what time he fell asleep. We actually had to wake him up at 7:30 because Caleb was going crazy.

The boys got remote control cars from mommy and daddy. Caleb just kept pointing the remote at his car and was really confused why it wouldn't go. It was so funny.

Santa got a little out of control at our house. All I'll say is that he made Jacob's life by giving him a John Deere Gator. He was seriously spazzing out when he saw it. I was really glad he didn't throw-up!! Santa gave Caleb a little 4-wheeler. He LOVES it, I think it might drive me crazy.

Jacob couldn't wait to go outside to drive around. It will a fun spring and summer! Thanks Santa!

After Christmas, Caleb got sick and postponed our trip to Fruit Heights a little but we ended up going anyway. We had such a good time playing with Grandpa John, Grandma Jan, Aunt Katrina, Uncle Burdette and Carter and Will. We stayed for a week and I think we all stayed up too late, played too hard and had too much fun. We need a few days to recover from our vacation! We had a blast!!

On New Years we hung out with some friends and went sledding. It was a blast!!

Aubrey and Katie at the end of the sledding run.

Jacob and Carter sliding down on their bums. Much safer for the little ones.

Clay just had to try this. It didn't go too well.

Cute Aubrey and Drew who came out for the holidays from Illinois.

We had so much fun and are so blessed to be surrounded by great friends and family.
